DTC Completes Extra Large Spraybooth Installation For Luxury Yacht Builder Based In Plymouth Manufacturing Facility

Spraybooth
Plymouth

Luxury Yacht Builder chose DTC to help upgrade the paint shop facility with the latest spray booth technology.

Plymouth, Devon. A prestigious yacht manufacturer based in the historic coastal city of Plymouth approached trusted supplier DTC to help upgrade their paint shop facility. The company needed to accommodate specialist refinishing work and bespoke colour coding processes that their existing setup could no longer support.

Previously, the facility operated with three individual spray booths. Two were standard car-sized units, and the third measured five metres in length. These booths were not suitable for large components such as fly bridges, and a permanent, purpose-built solution was urgently required.

Size was the main consideration from the outset. Once a suitable location was identified for installing a booth capable of handling large structures on a regular basis, DTC carried out a detailed evaluation and proposed a tailored solution. The recommendation was quickly approved by the engineering team, and the project progressed without delay.

Use a spray booth coating

DTC installed a single large booth measuring 20 metres wide, 10 metres deep, and 3.8 metres high. A sliding door across the midsection allows the booth to be divided into two separate 10-metre bays, enabling the simultaneous spraying of smaller projects. This flexible configuration ensures the booth can operate at full capacity regardless of the size of the item being sprayed.

The ceiling filtration system significantly exceeds what would be found in a standard spray booth. Instead of the usual four filters used in car-sized booths, this installation includes 52 filters spread across the ceiling. In addition, 24 side extraction filters were fitted to safely remove harmful fumes, along with 32 pocket filters integrated into the extraction system.

DTC delivered a complete turnkey solution, managing every element from the booth itself through to the exhaust and input ventilation systems extending to the roof. A dedicated paint storeroom and a paint mixing room were also installed nearby, streamlining processes and enhancing overall productivity.

The completed installation has transformed the way the yacht manufacturer operates. With the new booth in place, up to six operatives can now work on two fly bridges at the same time, streamlining processes and improving efficiency. The ability to switch between large and small projects with ease means the facility is more adaptable than ever, paving the way for a significant boost in overall productivity.
